Congratulations to Derrick Wang: Recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST)

We are excited to announce that Derrick Wang, a PhD student in our group, has been awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship in Science and Technology (QEII-GSST). This scholarship, awarded in May 2024, will support his research titled "Into the New Age of Health: Designing Exergames to Motivate Exercising for Better Physical and Mental Health."

Research Focus:

Derrick's work centers on exergames—digital games played through physical movements—that aim to make exercising more enjoyable by immersing users in the gaming experience. His research explores innovative exergame designs that not only entertain but also motivate users to overcome the common challenges of exercise, such as fatigue and boredom. The ultimate goal is to leverage exergames to enhance both the physical and mental health of Canadians.

This scholarship will fund Derrick's PhD studies as he collaborates with a team of exergame designers and researchers to create engaging and impactful health-driven exergames. We congratulate Derrick on this significant achievement and look forward to the exciting contributions his research will bring to the field of health and gaming.
