Federico is a master's student in Human–Computer Interaction at the University of Trento, Italy, and a visiting researcher with the HCI Games Group at the University of Waterloo. His research interests lie in game user research and design for social inclusion. His master's thesis focuses on re-onboarding processes in digital games: how players return to a game after a period of absence, what they remember or forget, and which barriers they encounter when trying to re-engage. He is particularly interested in how interface design, feedback, and in-game guidance can better support returning players, reducing friction and helping them recover competence, confidence, and a sense of progression. He is especially interested in qualitative methods, using interviews, observations, and thematic analysis to better understand how players experience games in real-world contexts.
